Ski Provisions for one and all

Not everyone likes to hurl themselves down a mountain for fun. Or actively pursue a goggle tan. Or chuckle merrily as someone shoves a handful of snow down their pants. If you’re similarly ski lift-averse, we invite you to the Ski Provisions table.  We think you’ll like it here.

A merry day on the slopes, sans-skis

8am—Wake up to the sounds of your hungover comrades stumbling out of bed, readying themselves for an “epic” day on the slopes. Listen to the sounds of zippers and snaps being fastened in a frustrated kind of way. Snuggle into your feather duvet and snooze on.

10am—Greet the winter sun with a few enthusiastic yoga poses. Or brew a pot of coffee and pad around the living room with zest. Or go back to bed. Do whatever the hell you want.

11am—Fire up the stove. It’s frittata time.

6 small Yukon potatoes

One yellow onion

8 eggs

Salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 350. Thinly slice potatoes and onion. Put both in a pan, sauté over medium heat in butter until brown. About 15 minutes. In a separate bowl, mix eggs, parsley, and salt and pepper. Remove pan from heat and pour in egg mixture. Put in oven for 20-30 minutes. (NB: The amount of time in the oven will depend on the thickness of the potatoes. Test with the tip of a knife.) Remove from oven and let sit for 10 minutes.

While the frittata turns into a puffy golden treat, find a festive layer or two and a fun ski hat (or toque, or beanie or whatever you call it) for the adventure ahead. Slice up that epic frittata and devour.

12pm—Head outside for a powdery adventure that doesn’t involve “getting air.” Consider a snowshoe experience. There are few sounds more satisfying than the crackly crunch of a snowshoe when one is tramping through the woods. Build an army of tiny snowmen or do the angel thing (although you might get snow in your pants). Go without pants for a while.

2pm—Break for Lift Snacks. Get a quick boost with our Powder Pack or indulge in a savory hand-pocket pie. Take a deep breath and relish the tremendous feeling of being out in the cold, alive and well-fed.

3pm—You know it—it’s time for an extreme nap! Sink into that homely but exceptionally comfortable armchair by the fire and make like a snowdrift.

5pm— Reunite with your posse and happily reminisce about the day’s escapades. Casually remark that your back feels super great.

8pm—Share an unforgettable experience: Make dinner together. After a little playful chef banter, feast your eyes on the prize(s): pan-seared pork chops, caramelized apples and toasted farro and pan-roasted wild-caught salmon with roasted garlic, marble potatoes, and a side of sautéed kale. You will be going back for seconds.

10pm—While everyone waits for the cookies to finish baking (usually about 8 minutes or so), meander to the fire and enjoy another round of cocktails. Or start an impromptu dance party because you have the energy.

11pm—Spend the last hours of the day waxing nostalgic about all the good times while noshing on gooey chocolate-chip cookies, drinking chocolate (tastes just like it sounds… dangerous), or our favorite throwback: La fondue fatale.
